Meet Khadijah (Ka-dee-ja)  or Kady (Kay-dee), our Community Intern here at The Pearl Works! Originally from Lebanon, Kady is currently studying marketing at CSUMB and dreams of one day running her own business. Kady joined The Pearl Works after being inspired by the welcoming, connected atmosphere she experienced on her first visit. A former architecture and biology major, she found her true calling in marketing and is helping us with our community outreach and social media endeavors! Outside of work and school, you’ll find her running her crochet business, competing in a bowling league, or learning the ropes of golf. Read on to learn more from the source herself!

Kay: Can you tell me a little bit about your background, what you are in school for, and what you’re interested in doing as a full-time gig some day?

Kady: I was born and raised in Lebanon before moving to the United States at 17. I completed my last two years of high school at PGHS and went on to pursue higher education. After changing my major three times (from architecture to biology, and finally to business) I found my passion in marketing. I am currently studying marketing at CSUMB. In the future, I’d really like to own my own business.

Kay: What motivated you to apply to the internship at The Pearl Works?

Kady: I first visited The Pearl Works through connections from another job and was immediately drawn to the strong sense of community. I knew right away that I wanted to be a part of it. When a friend of mine texted me about an open position, I knew I had to apply. I saw it as the perfect opportunity to join a place that had already made such a strong impression on me.

Kay: What are you looking forward to the most in your new role here at The Pearl Works?

Kady: I'm excited to support The Pearl Works in any way I can and contribute to its community. I’m also looking forward to building meaningful connections with the people I meet here in the heart of Monterey.

Kay: What are your hobbies or passions outside of work and school?

Kady: My three main hobbies are what I like to call my “grandma hobbies”: crocheting, bowling, and golfing. I run my own small crochet business. I also bowl every week as part of a league, and recently, my boyfriend introduced me to golf.

Kay: What’s your favorite inspirational quote or piece of advice?

Kady: A quote that I love and will always stand by is “practice makes perfect”. It’s what I would mutter under my breath when I first started crocheting.

Kay: What’s a fun fact about you?

Kady: I have a long full government that no one can pronounce.

As an intern, Kady can be found at The Pearl Works most afternoons, working hard on social media and marketing projects that help tell our story. Be sure to say hi or reach out the next time you stop by! She’s always happy to connect and share a smile!
